Behaviour support practitioner
Bec is a Registered Behaviour Support Practitioner based in Melbourne. She holds a Bachelor of Psychology and comes to behaviour support with a background in frontline disability support work. Her psychology training shapes how she assesses behaviour: she looks for the reasons behind it, considering the person's physical and mental health, communication, history and environment before recommending any strategy.
Bec's work focuses on adults with complex support needs, particularly people living with a psychotic illness such as schizophrenia alongside autism or intellectual disability, many of whom live in supported independent living or specialist disability accommodation. She also works with young people and their families where behaviour is affecting school and home life. Her practice includes functional behaviour assessment, interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans, restrictive practice audits and review, and recommendations reports to support NDIS plan reassessments.
Her experience as a support worker means Bec understands what a behaviour support plan needs to look like to work on a real shift. She writes strategies that support workers can use, helps teams apply them consistently, and works closely with guardians, families, support coordinators, occupational therapists, GPs and treating teams. Bec practises under weekly clinical supervision within our psychologist-led team, in line with the NDIS Commission's Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework, and her approach is trauma informed and focused on reducing and eliminating restrictive practices.
