Behaviour support practitioner
Zach is one of our behaviour support practitioners in Queensland. He is based on the Gold Coast and also works across Brisbane and the surrounding areas. He came to behaviour support from teaching and youth work, and he has an easy, down to earth way of talking with people that helps them feel comfortable with him early on.
Zach holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a Master of Secondary Teaching. Before coming to Richer Support he taught in Queensland high schools and worked at a flexible learning centre, supporting young people who had disengaged from mainstream schooling. He has also worked with First Nations young people in a community program, including young people involved with the youth justice system. In each of these roles he got to know the young person and their family, worked to understand what was driving the behaviour, and put together practical plans with teachers, youth workers and families so that everyone was working the same way.
His approach is trauma informed and built on relationships. He is trained in Collaborative Problem Solving, and he likes to work alongside the person to understand what they are finding hard, then build skills and adjust routines and surroundings so that everyday life goes more smoothly. Outside of work Zach loves science, music and film, and shared interests are often where he starts when getting to know someone new.
Zach works closely with our Queensland Practice Lead, Jessie Rose, who provides his weekly clinical supervision.
